December Examination and Promotions
A grading examination was held yesterday (15/12/2012) at Minster Hall, presided over by TKD Power™ Senior Instructors Mr. Antony Panteli VI Dan and Mr. Matthew Godden III Dan, and conducted by Mr. Joseph Mitchell II Dan.

The first order of business was the testing for promotion to II Dan Black Belt by Nicola Elsworth. Nicola, who has assumed considerable teaching responsibilities this year, as well as working for the Insolvency Service, whilst studying full time for a University Degree, displayed the form that we have come to expect from her presenting to the examiners an excellent demonstration of her Taekwon-Do skills and abilities.

Her test was comprehensive and Nicola was required to perform the three Ist degree patterns, together with three patterns selected from the colour belt syllabus. She was also required to perform model sparring (mobum matsoki), leg sparring (bal matsoki), 2 v 1 Sparring (idayle matsoki) , free sparring (jayoo matsoki) and self defence (horsinsul).

To finish Nicola was also required to perform several destruction techniques, including flying, special and power strikes, not to mention the extensive theory test that had earlier been completed under examination conditions. Testing for TKD Power™ black belt grades is not for the faint hearted, and results are genuinely hard won by.

Nicola`s overall efforts were highly commended by the examiners who appropriately awarded her promotion to 2nd Dan at Merit level.

Full Results

Following black belt testing, members of the Dover schools tested for colour belt promotions. As we have come to expect from the Dover school, the performances were of an extremeley high standard. Most notable of these was the attainment of a distinction pass to 9th kup by new-starter Judy Berisha. Judy`s performance was described by Mr. Panteli as `inspirational` and true evidence that age is absolutely no barrier to Taekwon-Do under guidance of skilled and knowledgeble instructors. Judy is over 50 years old.

As usual the panel would like to thank the many family-members and well-wishers who turned out to support the event. Thanks also to Amy Kehoe and Bryn Kehoe who were there to assist the examination candidates with step and free sparring.
